With a name like Gitlo Lee, he just has to be a bluesman.
And his first recording after 46 years in the business, "Comin' Out the Hole," leaves no question that Lee has lived a bluesman's life. The proof can be heard loud, proud and with no ambiguity whatsoever. 
Lee's early life has all the makings of a bluesman. One of 12 children, he grew up in Georgia on the edge of the Okefenokee Swamp and he lived in a sharecropper's camp. It was here he acquired his name for the way he was able to "get low" to pick sweet potatoes. As a 13-year-old, Lee had a reputation for his guitar skills, so much so that Sonny Boy Williamson drafted him to fill in on a New Year's Eve gig in a nearby town. 

 

Gitlo has remained about as grass roots as the blues can get. He has toured for 46 years up and down the Eastern Seaboard, headlining at clubs like BB King’s in Orlando, Florida. He now splits his time between South Georgia and Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, where his label, Chuckie Productions is based. "Lee's original songs deal with familiar blues themes.
